At Ludhiana Steel Rolling Mills, we manufacture a broad range of carbon steel grades for forging, machining and engineering applications. Our carbon steel portfolio covers low-, medium- and higher-carbon grades used across automotive components, fasteners, agricultural equipment, machinery and general engineering.
Depending on your manufacturing route, carbon steel can be supplied in different product forms, including Round Bars, RCS Bars and Peeled Bars.
If you already know the grade you need, send us the specification directly. If not, share the component, application, size and required condition so the material requirement can be reviewed in context.
Enquire NowOur carbon steel range includes:
These grades cover different combinations of formability, machinability, strength, hardness potential and heat-treatment response.
The correct grade should always be selected according to the component design, manufacturing process and applicable customer specification rather than carbon content alone.
Available size range: 16mm to 230mm.
Carbon steel round bars are suitable for forging, machining and component manufacturing where a circular starting section is preferred. Typical requirements can include shafts, pins, fasteners, machine components and other forged or machined parts.
Available size range: 28mm to 140mm.
Round Cornered Square bars provide an alternative starting section for forging operations where square-section material with radiused corners better suits the forging route.
Available size range: 18mm to 80mm.
Peeled bars provide an improved starting surface for machining and precision-component manufacturing where surface condition and material removal are important considerations.
Carbon content has a significant influence on how steel behaves during manufacturing and in service.
Grades such as C15, SAE1008, SAE1010, SAE1018 and SAE1020 sit toward the lower-carbon end of the range. These steels are generally selected where properties such as formability, ductility, weldability, cold working and straightforward machining are important to the manufacturing process. They are commonly considered for formed parts, fasteners and general engineering components depending on the specification.
Grades such as C35, C40, C45, EN8, SAE1040 and SAE1045 offer greater strength and hardness potential. They are frequently associated with components such as shafts, axles, pins, gears, studs, machine parts and forged engineering components. Their response to heat treatment also makes them useful where the component requires a controlled balance of strength and toughness.
Grades such as Ck60, C50, SAE1050 and EN9 move further toward hardness and wear-related performance. These steels need more careful consideration of machining, forming and heat treatment because increasing carbon content generally reduces ductility while increasing achievable hardness.
Carbon steel is widely used as forging stock because different grades can provide different combinations of formability, strength and heat-treatment response.
For a forging enquiry, the most useful information is: Grade + Standard + Starting Section + Size + Quantity + Supply Condition + Final Component.
The starting form also matters. Round Bars may be suitable where a circular section works with the billet calculation and die design, while RCS Bars may be preferred for specific forging geometries.
Our carbon steel range can therefore be approached from both directions: by grade or by forged component.
Many carbon steel grades are used extensively in machined engineering components. Typical machining operations include:
The optimum grade depends on the mechanical requirement as well as the machining route. For example, a lower-carbon grade may be useful where forming and machinability are the main priorities, while a medium-carbon grade may be more appropriate where the finished part also requires greater strength.
Where the starting surface is particularly important, a peeled bar may provide a more suitable input than an ordinary rolled surface.
Carbon steels can respond differently to thermal processing depending on their carbon content, section size and intended properties. Our heat-treatment infrastructure supports processes including annealing, normalising and spheroidising.
These processes can be used to prepare material for subsequent machining, forming or further heat treatment depending on the grade and customer requirement.
The required supply condition should be stated on the enquiry wherever it forms part of the material specification. Not every grade should be assumed to be available in every condition, so the complete requirement should be reviewed before finalising the order.
Our engineering steels are produced through an integrated manufacturing route: Steel Melting → Ladle Refining → Vacuum Degassing → Continuous Casting → Rolling → Heat Treatment / Finishing → Inspection & Testing.
This integrated approach allows us to control the steel across multiple production stages rather than beginning only with purchased finished material. Our manufacturing setup includes steel melting, secondary refining, vacuum degassing, billet casting, rolling, heat treatment and finishing operations.
For the buyer, that means the finished carbon steel bar is supported by a complete manufacturing route from molten steel onward.
Material selection does not end with choosing a grade. Depending on the application and specification, buyers may also need verification of chemistry, mechanical properties, internal soundness or hardness. Our testing infrastructure includes facilities for:
The required inspection level should always be defined by the applicable material standard or customer specification.
Our engineering steels are supplied to manufacturers across multiple industrial sectors.
Carbon steels can form the starting material for forged and machined components such as shafts, pins, axles and other mechanical parts depending on the grade and design.
Low- and medium-carbon grades are widely relevant to the production of nuts, bolts, studs and other engineered fasteners.
Carbon steel is used across tractor components, agricultural implements and machinery parts where strength, machinability and practical manufacturability are important.
Round and RCS sections can be supplied as starting material for forged engineering components.
Carbon steel remains one of the most versatile material groups for machined, fabricated and mechanically loaded components. The actual grade for any application should always follow the component specification rather than a generic industry recommendation.
Our portfolio covers more than twenty carbon steel designations across C-series, EN and SAE systems.
Depending on the requirement, carbon steel can be discussed in:
